III(1). Z Visa Application 
For new teachers who come directly from abroad or the current teachers who can’t extend their Residence Permit in time before they leave for vacation: you need to apply for a new Z visa(again) during the vacation according to the procedure below:

1. Applying time：about two months earlier before you come to China
2. Documents we need from you sent by email：CV，passport，degree，draft contract.
(1) curriculum vitae（including education background and work experience）
(2) the copy of the first page of your passport(the page with your photo)
(3) the copy of certificates of education (degree certificates) 
(4) the copy of a letter of reference from your present working contact
(5) your medical report issued by the hospital and medical organizations authorized by the Chinese embassy or consulate.(If there are no organizations mentioned above in your area. Please offer the medical report issued by your local official hospital or private doctor.)
(6) Three 2-inch colored photos
(7) Accompanied spouse and children should provide the copies of their own passport and relevant documents, i.e. marriage certificate.
(8) Draft contract
Note: please tell us at which Chinese Embassy or Consulate you will apply for your visa.
3. Documents you will receive from us about 40 days later by EMS: “Working Permit” and “Visa Notice Form”
4. Visa application: then please go to the Chinese Embassy or Consulate with these two documents to apply for your Z visa and then you can come to Guangzhou. Your family members also need it.

III.(2) Residence Permit Application
★This is very important for teachers holding a “Z” visa. Please read it very carefully：

After you get your Z visa and enter China Mainland, you must apply for your Residence Permit within 30 days of entry to avoid illegal stay and penalty (500RMB per day, paid by yourself). The exact application procedure is as follows:

(1) Within 2 days of entry: Please sign your formal contract with us and fill in the medical insurance forms, then go to the Int’l Cooperation and Exchange Office to check your Z visa and entry date and make a copy of them.

(2) Within 3 days of entry: Please get a health check and a Health Certificate. Your family members also need it: (children younger than 18 don’t need it)
 

(3) Once you get your Health Certificate, please bring the documents below to the Int’l Cooperation and Exchange Office（within about  5 days of entry）:
 

The Foreign Affiars Office will post them to Administration of Foreign Experts of Guangdong Province to apply for your Foreign Experts Certificate. It takes about  9 days to get these documents back from Fuzhou.

 (4) Once we got your Foreign Experts Certificate, we will inform you. Then you should go to the local police station branch ("Pai Chu Suo") your rented apartment subject to with your landlord to prepare an Temporary Residence Registration Form. You should bring your passport, one 2-inch photo, Foreign Experts Certificate and your landlord should bring his ID Card (“Shen Fen Zheng”)，Household Register Booklet (“Hu Kou Ben”) and House Ownership Certificate (“Fang Chan Zheng”).Please also make a copy of the above document and your Z visa and the passport page with the entry stamp if it isn’t on the same page with the Z visa. Your family members also need the Temporary Residence Registration Form，one form per person.
   Those lodging in the Foreign Experts Building /Apartment Buildings for International Students on campus, as don’t have a landlord, please come to Foreign Affairs Office for a certificate before going to the police station branch. 
(5) Within 30 days of entry: please bring your Temporary Residence Registration Form and passports to the Foreign Affairs Office. The Foreign Affairs Office will issued another certificate for you to apply for your Residence Permit from the Division of Administration on Exit & Entry Administration Department of Guangzhou Municipal PSB. Please prepare the necessary documents according to the following check list.
   1. Passport 
   2. Expert Certificate
   3. A copy of 1. and 2. , Z visa and the passport page with the entry stamp if it isn’t on the same page with the Z visa.
   4.Temporary Residence Registration Form
   5. Health Certificate 
   6. visa and residence permit registration form filled by yourself (can be fetched in Foreign Affairs Office)
   7. Certificate issued by Foreign Affairs Office
   8. Photo receipt with code bar and one photo

(6) After you obtain a residence permit or a new visa from Division of Administration on Exit & Entry Administration Department of Guangzhou Municipal PSB, you should go to the local police station to renew your residence registration information in ten days.

★The Foreign Experts Certificate and Residence Permit are commonly valid for only one year, so you need to extend them every year following the procedure below:
Residence Permit Extension:
If you renew your contract with SCNU, you must extend your Residence Permit about one month earlier before it expires. Or if you need to leave for vacation before it expires, you must extend it about 30 days earlier before you leave. Please bring the documents below to the Foreign Affairs Office：
 

The Foreign Affairs Office will apply for extension of your Foreign Experts Certificate in the local municipal government (takes about 14 days) and go to Division of Administration on Exit & Entry Administration Department of Guangzhou Municipal PSB to extend your Residence Permit in Entry and Exit of Police Station (takes 7 days).

Please note: (1) As the Int’l Office also needs your new contract to extend your Foreign Experts Certificate, please make sure that you have signed your new contract with the your college before you come to the Foreign Affairs Office. (2) The Health Certificate is also commonly valid for only one year. Please confirm with the Foreign Affairs Office whether it has expired or not beforehand. If it’s still valid, you don’t need to make a new one. If it’s already expired, you will need to do a health check again and make a new Health Certificate. (3) If you can’t extend your residence permit in time before you leave, you can only apply for a new Z visa during the vacation. Please see previous page for the Z visa application procedure.

If you hold a “F” visa and need to extend it, please bring your passport to the Foreign Affairs Office at least one week before the visa expires. The Foreign Affairs Office will help you to extend it.
